Delegate places are available to successful Applicants aged 18 to 25 years old. * (Applicants must be turning 18 years old on or before 15th June 2008 or be turning 26 on or after 22 June 2008)

All delegate places are 100% free and will include all your Accommodation, food and social programme events for the week. This will also include your Delegate Fee to attend the CIVICUS World Assembly.

However, travel expenses to and from Scotland are to be paid personally. Many Applicants have already informed us that they have managed to secure their own sponsorship to cover these expenses.

Delegate places are limited and will be awarded to the strongest applicants from around the world. These will be assessed on the following criteria:

Initiative and Personal Development

Candidates will be expected to have the motivation to participate and to be keen to always seek challenges and opportunities to learn from. As well as being innovative and creative, candidates will also be expected to have the practical initiative to put ideas into practice.

Successful applicants are likely to already be involved in a group or project related to the themes of the Civicus World Assembly.

Cultured and outgoing

An open- minded flexible approach to cultural identity is required, as well as being generally receptive and interested in other cultures and people. It is essential that all applicants can communicate clearly and to the point and have a good command of English, as well as other languages.

Responsible with Vision...

Candidates will be aware of their surrounding social reality, understand the value of volunteering and that their decisions and actions effect others on multiple levels.

Applicants are also expected to demonstrate a sense of purpose and personal principals compatible to those of the objectives of the Youth Assembly.

Overall, candidates will be serious about the Youth Assembly, what it stands for and what the outcomes will be.

Active Participants

The Assembly aims primarily to attract young leaders in the youth-led Social and civil Justice field, and particularly those who have planned or taken part in youth-led projects and groups in 2005, 2006 and 2007.

Delegates will do much, much more than listening to speeches and drawing up declarations, the Assembly is designed to sharpen your skills and give delegates a communal space to think and plan solutions to take action and it will also give you opportunities to see what young people like yourself are doing around the world.

To qualify in this category, delegates have to be able to demonstrate firsthand knowledge of social and civil justice work and/or through previous involvement in a project of their own.

Interested (but not experienced) Participants

Delegates could also be selected if they were very interested in the themes of the Assembly, but had not yet had the chance to be involved in a social or civil justice project. We have a very limited number of these places.

Application forms will be accepted with supplementary information (no more than 500 words) explaining why you want to come and what you hope to gain from attending, and also how you plan to catalyse change in your local community and/or home country on your return.

Travel Bursary
We are able to offer a limited number of delegates most in need support to travel to the event in Glasgow. To be able to apply for this support you must reside in qualifying country. Applications for bursary support from people outwith these designtated countries cannot be considered, please refer to this list before you fill out an application.
